It is mainly used in in vitro diagnostic reagents. has been used as an antibacterial agent in the analysis of cerebrospinal fluid, urine sediment, qPCR buffer, and nucleic acid release agents.
It is one of the most commonly used preservatives in these in vitro diagnostic reagents, and has good antibacterial effect in most (alkaline) conditions.
However, sodium azide inhibits the activity of various enzymes such as horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and superoxide dismutase
